Diplomacy SundayJoseph Wheeler Brought to you by the Potomac Tea & Knife Society as a pre-con for their Tempest in a Teapot event the following weekend. You are welcome to play at Diplomacy at CoG, even if you have never played before. Card Room
Euro Caucus Saturday/SundayJohn Weber Play in this wildcard tournament consisting of some of the most popular Eurogames (based on rankings at BoardGameGeek.com) over the course of the two days. Demos precede each game. You may drop in and out of the Caucus, as time permits. The event starts on Saturday at 10 am, with starts scheduled about every 2 hours. The games will include Ingenious, Dominion, Endeavor, Princes of Florence, Race for the Galaxy, Settlers of Catan, Power Grid, Age of Empires, Carcassonne, Vegas Showdown, Ticket to Ride, Ra, Puerto Rico, Stone Age, Agricola, and Automobile. Rio Grande Game Design Contest Saturday/SundayKaarin Engelmann Instead of the Iron Design Challenge, this year CoG will be the Washington, D.C. venue, advancing a finalist to the 2010 Rio Grande Design Contest at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair, Nov. 20-21. Robo Race to the White HouseSunday Marc Houde Practice being a legislator (i.e., robot) bumbling about the capitol building (i.e., factory) and taking potshots at people (i.e., robots) in your line of sight! We'll start at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Special rules will be in effect and players could see boards from any edition of the game and expansion sets. Carnation Room
CoG Racing Series Saturday/SundayMark Mitchell You are welcome to play in any of the individual events regardless of your interest in the series. The overall winner of the series will be determined based on a points system earned in all events. Scoring for each of the games will be the same as used in the Formula 1 series (10 - 1st, 6 - 2nd, 4 - 3rd, 3 - 4th, 2 - 5th, and 1 - 6th). The schedule will be announced approximately Sept. 1. Embassy from ChinaSaturday/Sunday Todd Heidenreich Learn and play the ancient, strategic boardgame Go. In this game, two players alternately placing black and white stones on the vacant intersections of a line grid. Go is noted for being rich in strategic complexity despite its simple rules. De Bellis VasingtoniumSaturday Chris Brantley Congress of Gamers is happy to welcome the 5th annual "Wars of Washington, DC" DBA historical miniatures tournament. DBV is a four round, 15mm open tournament fought on 30" square boards. Will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Set-up begins at noon. Card Room
Over Flanders FieldsSaturday Chris Brantley It is March 1918, and the German Kaiserschlacht offensive is underway. A rag-tag patrol of Triple Entente fighters comes face to face with three Friedrichshafen Multi-Engine Bombers! And escorts! With Allied ack-ack overrun, a flight of the giants is coming to bomb airfields, hospitals, churches, and who knows what else! Maybe the Louvre! No, not even the Huns would stoop so low. This is a "Stop Them" mission designed for any number of players using the fast and popular "Wings of War" miniatures. Players should bring their own Wings of War miniatures (except Fokker D7 or Sopwith Snipe). Some loaners available. Allied pilots encouraged. No preregistration is required -- planes may join in at any time, even coming into the battle late. All Wings of War optional rules will be used along with a simple altitude system. The scenario is based upon the recently-released "Flight of the Giants" Wings of War expansion. Gamemaster: David Kuijt Will run 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Card Room
Seminar: DBA Tutorial - Learn to play the GameSaturdayDavid Schlanger and David Kuijt Here's your chance to learn more about the DBA (ancient wargaming) rules for fast, friendly gaming with miniatures. There will be ready to play games for beginners with armies deployed for action, as well as help provided by experienced DBA gamers (The Two Davids). Armies and Terrain will be provided. No DBA experience necessary! Take your knowledge from the Tutorial and participate in the DBV Tourney and the Ruler of the Nile event. Spend all day playing DBA!
